Myanmar is a sovereign state in South Asia bordered by China, Thailand, India, Laos, and Bangladesh.
Government/history
Myanmar was colonized by Britain since 1886, after the Anglo-Burmese Wars(1824- 1885), and became independent in 1948. After the declaration of independence, in 1962, the military led by General Ne Win took control of Myanmar again through a coup d etat. (Junta) During this time, consistent and systematic human rights violations were reported in the country, including genocide, the use of child soldiers, systematic rape, child labor, slavery, human trafficking and a lack of freedom of speech. In 2008, the Burmese Constitutional Referendum was held and became democratic country, and changed its name to Republic of Union of Myanmar.

Myanmar was colonized by Britain since 1886 and became independence in 1948. Again the military took control of Myanmar, or Junta, since 1962. The most important events happened during the military control are: 8888 uprising and Saffron Revolution. These revolutions helped Myanmar to become a democratic country.
