aung san suu kyi
Aung San Suu Kyi is a politician. Her father is Aung San, who negotiated the independence from the British Empire in 1948. Aung San Suu Kyi played an important role in this revolution and all protests related to freedom of Myanmar. In 1991 Aung San Suu Kyi won the Nobel Peace Prize while under house arrest. When she was released in 1995, she was told if she left the country she could not return. During 13-31 August protests, she urged people not to turn on army but find peace through nonviolent means.
national league for democracy
National League for Democracy is a Burmese political party founded on 27 September 1988. House Representative and Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi serves as its General Secretary.
The NLD was formed in the aftermath of the 8888 Uprising, which took place in 1988 and was ended when the military took control of the country in a coup. It formed under the leadership of Aung San Suu Kyi.
